Cities across Latin America and Europe witnessed a wave of pro-Palestine rallies and public actions over recent days, as campaigners marked three years since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza and called for an end to the assault, accountability for violations and a halt to military and political support for Israel.

The actions were part of a global campaign launched by the Global Alliance for Palestine from October 9 to 11, with the participation of more than 200 organizations in over 60 countries, according to the alliance. The campaign brought together grassroots movements, trade unions, student groups, human rights organizations and civil society bodies.

In Latin America, protests and solidarity events were held from Mexico to Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Peru. In Mexico City, hundreds marched from the Angel of Independence monument toward what solidarity groups call “Free Palestine Square,” raising Palestinian flags and calling for an end to the war on Gaza.

In Chile, thousands marched through central Santiago in response to calls from student, union and human rights organizations. Demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and carried banners condemning Israeli military operations in Gaza.

In Uruguay, thousands joined a march in Montevideo under the slogan “Free Palestine or Barbarism,” calling on the government to adopt a firmer position toward Israel. Similar activities were also organized in other cities.

Brazil also saw solidarity actions, especially in São Paulo, where unions and social groups joined gatherings in support of Palestine. Brazil’s Unified Workers’ Central, CUT, announced the participation of a health sector bloc in a campaign calling for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, and other detained Palestinian health workers, while demanding protection for hospitals and medical teams.

In Peru, student unions, human rights groups and Palestine solidarity organizations also joined the global mobilization, calling for clearer government positions on the war in Gaza and relations with Israel.

The solidarity wave extended to Europe, where Berlin witnessed a pro-Palestine demonstration attended by around 3,500 people, according to police. Organized by the group United for Palestine, the march began between the German Chancellery and the Bundestag as part of the Global Day of Action.

Participants raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans demanding an end to Israel’s military assault on Gaza and calling on the German government to stop its support for Israel, particularly military backing. Tensions were reported during the march amid confrontation with supporters of Israel.

Similar actions took place in other European cities, including London, Milan, Rome and Warsaw, where demonstrators called for an end to the war on Gaza and urged their governments to stop arming and backing Israel.

The spread of protests from Latin America to Europe reflects the continued presence of Palestine in global public debate, with solidarity movements increasingly moving beyond street demonstrations to coordinated union, student, health-sector and legal campaigns aimed at turning public pressure into political action.
