The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Wednesday that they had carried out a military operation targeting Saudi Aramco in Dhahran in the Eastern Province, King Khalid International Airport, and an Aramco refinery in Riyadh. The forces said the operation was carried out in line with previous warnings issued to the Saudi enemy.
In a statement, the Yemeni Armed Forces said the operation was a response to Saudi aggression against the capital, Sana'a, and other areas of Yemen.
They described it as part of deterrence operations against Saudi Arabia, stating that Saudi forces had carried out 2,281 airstrikes and missile attacks during the latest escalation, resulting in dozens of crimes.
The statement said the operation involved a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. The forces stressed the strikes hit their targets accurately and caused destruction and fires at the targeted sites.
They warned that operations deep inside Saudi territory would continue in the coming days, with further attacks targeting Saudi airports and oil facilities. The statement said the consequences would be severe for Saudi Arabia.
The Yemeni Armed Forces urged international shipping companies, civilians and employees working at the targeted airports and facilities to stay away and evacuate immediately, declaring the sites legitimate targets for their forces.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to the equation of blockade-for-blockade and escalation-for-escalation, and said they would continue targeting Saudi military build-ups until the attacks on Yemen cease and the blockade is lifted.
In March 2015, a Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen in support of the Saudi-backed government against the Sana'a-based authorities.
The aggression has involved repeated airstrikes, restrictions on imports and attacks affecting critical infrastructure. The Yemeni Armed Forces have repeatedly framed their operations against Saudi targets as retaliation for the military campaign and blockade.
