US President Donald Trump has faced repeated interruptions from protesters during campaign rallies ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, as his approval ratings have fallen to their lowest levels of his presidency, Newsweek reported.
Trump has dismissed unfavorable polling, arguing that surveys fail to account for his campaign appearances. “These fake polls, they don’t account for one thing. They don’t account for the fact that Trump is out campaigning,” he said at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, on October 3. “They never thought this was going to happen.”
The elections will determine control of both chambers of Congress, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats up for election. The results will shape the balance of power during the final two years of Trump's presidency.
Democrats need to defend their existing seats and gain four additional seats to take control of the Senate. In the House, a party needs 218 seats for a majority. Republicans currently hold 219 seats, compared with 213 for Democrats.
