466 Palestinians have died from malnutrition and starvation in the Gaza Strip since 2024, including 157 children, accounting for one-third of the total, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Friday, marking World Food Day. The announcement comes as the genocide, which has made hunger a daily reality in the strip, continues unabated.

The Ministry noted that malnutrition and starvation rates in the Gaza Strip have reached catastrophic levels, claiming the lives of children, older people, and other vulnerable groups.

158,001 cases of acute malnutrition among children under five

The Ministry projected that more than 1.4 million people, or 67% of the population, would face crisis-level food insecurity or worse through the end of 2026, as the Gaza Governorate continues to face the famine officially declared there in August 2025.

According to the statement, 158,001 cases of acute malnutrition among children under five were recorded between 2024 and August 2026, including 28,716 severe cases that pose a threat to life.

The under-five mortality rate rose from 13.6 to 33.4 deaths per 1,000 live births between 2022 and 2025, while 12.2% of children suffer from stunting.

The Ministry expects 74,200 children to require treatment for acute malnutrition by April 2027.
