Abdulwahid Abu Ras, Deputy Foreign Minister in Sanaa, has sent letters to the foreign ministers of several Islamic nations regarding recent developments concerning the Saudi escalation against Yemen and its humanitarian repercussions.

Abu Ras stated that Saudi Arabia has continued its aggression and blockade since March 2015. He noted that Sanaa has engaged positively with negotiation efforts and the roadmap sponsored by the Sultanate of Oman, while Riyadh has shirked the agreement and sought to prolong a state of neither peace nor war.

He pointed out that the recent Saudi escalation has resulted in the deaths of 107 people and the injury of 278 others across 13 governorates, with women and children making up over 60% of the casualties. He also highlighted the targeting of homes, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, factories, and fuel stations.

Abu Ras affirmed that Saudi Arabia has formed alliances against Sanaa, mobilized militarily, and promoted false narratives regarding the targeting of Islamic sanctities. He emphasized Sanaa’s commitment to a just and honorable peace, alongside its continued self-defense and counter-mobilization against Saudi deployments.

Furthermore, he reiterated Sanaa’s commitment to international humanitarian law and its keenness on the safety of navigation in the Red Sea. He warned that Saudi Arabia’s transformation of the Bab al-Mandab Strait into a theater of war threatens international navigation.
