The National Human Rights Commission and its branch in Taiz Governorate condemned the massacre committed by Saudi enemy aircraft, which targeted civilian homes in the Hamir Al-Jabal area of Maqbanah District, Taiz Governorate, in four airstrikes.

A statement issued by the Commission and its Taiz branch explained that, according to a preliminary toll, the crime resulted in the martyrdom of nine civilians, including women and children, and the injury of 16 others with varying degrees of wounds. A number of civilians remain trapped under the rubble, amid extreme difficulties in retrieving them due to the massive scale of destruction.

The statement considered the deliberate and systematic targeting of densely populated residential neighborhoods a war crime and a crime against humanity under international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Article “8/2/b/1 and 2,” as well as a violation of international norms and conventions.

The statement pointed out that carrying out four successive airstrikes on the residential site reveals the Saudi enemy’s intention to inflict the highest possible number of casualties.

The Commission and its branch in Taiz held the Saudi enemy fully and directly responsible for the massacre. They also held the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council morally and legally responsible for the Saudi enemy’s continued commission of crimes as a result of their silence.

The statement called on the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and UNICEF to condemn the targeting of women and children in Maqbanah. It also called on local and international human rights organizations to condemn the crime.

The Human Rights Commission and its branch in Taiz Governorate renewed their demand that the leaders of the Saudi aggression be brought to trial as war criminals before the International Criminal Court.
