The Saudi enemy today, Tuesday, committed a heinous massacre against fishermen in Dhubab District, Taiz Governorate.

A security source stated that eight fishermen were killed as a result of Saudi enemy aircraft bombing two fishing boats in two airstrikes off the coast of Al-Kadha in the coastal district of Dhubab. The source explained that Saudi enemy aircraft targeted fishermen aboard one of the boats anchored near the coast of Al-Kadha in the coastal district of Dhubab.

The source added that Saudi enemy aircraft returned to target the fishermen who had survived the first airstrike as they attempted to escape aboard another boat, killing all of them.

This crime comes one day after the Saudi enemy’s spokesperson threatened to target fishermen, confirming that the Saudi enemy committed the crime with premeditation and deliberate intent.

For its part, the National Human Rights Authority strongly condemned the heinous crime committed today by Saudi enemy aircraft, which targeted two fishing boats in two airstrikes off the coast of Al-Kadha in the coastal district of Dhubab, Taiz Governorate, killing eight fishermen.

The Authority affirmed that this crime against unarmed civilians carrying out their daily profession to earn their livelihood constitutes a fully-fledged war crime and a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian conventions and laws. It also represents an extension of the series of systematic crimes committed against Yemeni fishermen and the Yemeni people in general.

The Authority held the Saudi enemy fully responsible for this crime, calling on the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and international organizations to condemn the crime and pursue those responsible in a manner that ensures they do not escape punishment.

In the same context, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources strongly condemned the targeting by Saudi enemy aircraft of fishermen in the coastal district of Dhubab, Taiz Governorate, and the targeting of a citizen’s farm in Al-Munirah District, Hodeidah Governorate, which resulted in the killing of a number of fishermen and the death of cattle.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture considered the targeting of fishermen while carrying out their activities in coastal waters, as well as pursuing and targeting them again while they were attempting to escape, a crime against civilians and workers in the fisheries sector and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of fishermen and their sources of livelihood.

The statement refuted the claims made by the aggression’s spokesperson regarding the use of traditional boats to smuggle weapons, missiles, and military equipment into Yemen, affirming that such claims do not justify targeting civilian fishermen and their boats. It clarified that the targeted boats were engaged in fishing activities in coastal waters and that pursuing and targeting fishermen as they attempted to escape constitutes a direct attack on civilians and workers in the fisheries sector.

The statement pointed out that targeting farms, facilities, and livestock production constitutes a direct assault on the agricultural sector, the foundations of food security, and citizens’ livelihoods. It said this comes within the context of the systematic targeting of national productive sectors.

The Ministry of Agriculture affirmed that the continued targeting of farmers, fishermen, their property, and their sources of production would not deter the Yemeni people from continuing to work and produce, remaining committed to their land, sea, and sources of livelihood, and strengthening the resilience of the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The Ministry held the Saudi enemy fully responsible for these crimes and the resulting human, material, economic, and environmental damage, calling on the international community and the relevant organizations and bodies to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the ongoing targeting of civilians and workers in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The Ministry of Agriculture reiterated its commitment to continuing its efforts to protect and develop the agricultural and fisheries sectors and strengthen local production, in a manner that contributes to achieving food security and mitigating the repercussions of the brutal aggression and siege on citizens’ lives and livelihoods.

In the same context, the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea strongly condemned the horrific crime committed by Saudi enemy aircraft in targeting fishermen’s boats off the coast of Al-Kadha in Dhubab District, Taiz Governorate, which resulted in the killing of eight fishermen and the injury of others.

In a statement, the Authority affirmed that this treacherous criminal assault against unarmed fishermen falls within the enemy’s dark record and the horrific massacres committed against them since the beginning of the Saudi aggression against Yemen in March 2015.

The statement considered this heinous crime conclusive evidence of the confusion of the criminal Saudi enemy and its deliberate targeting of civilians seeking their livelihoods and the daily sustenance of their families out at sea.

The Authority held the Saudi aggression fully accountable for the consequences and responsibility for this heinous crime against fishermen and their families. It considered this criminal act a dangerous precedent that warns of further crimes aimed at depriving fishermen of their livelihoods and destroying fishing boats, which constitute a fundamental pillar in providing food for them and their families.

The Authority stressed that it fully reserves its right to pursue legal accountability and prosecute the Saudi criminal and all those involved in these crimes and flagrant violations.

It called on all humanitarian organizations, the international community, and the United Nations to fulfill their humanitarian and moral responsibilities, take the initiative to condemn this heinous crime, take serious action to protect fishermen, and put an end to all ongoing crimes and attacks against them.
