Freeing Saudi detainees a positive step:ICRC

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) considered releasing six captured Saudi soldiers a positive step.

It facilitated the return of six detainees from Yemen to Saudi Arabia, based on an agreement between the Saudi authorities and Ansar Allah, it stated.

The committee expressed the hope that this step would be a reason for the release of more detainees due to the conflict and their repatriation.

It was, it confirmed, acting as a neutral intermediary and had not participated in any prior negotiations for the release.

Freya Rady, deputy head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen said, “We are delighted to see momentum happen with the release of detainees, which is taking place on both sides.”
