US State Department: Saudi Arabia Still Classified As Country of Concern

A 2020 State Department report on terrorism confirmed that Saudi Arabia remains classified as a country of concern due to its suppression of freedoms. “International human rights and media groups confirm that Saudi Arabia has abused anti-terrorism laws,” the report added.

According to the report the abuse of anti-terrorism laws is due to prosecuting political and human rights activists.

It is noteworthy that in September 2017, Saudi authorities arrested prominent preachers and activists in the country, amid demands from international and Islamic figures that they should be released.
