Civil Defense Authority warns of rock slides in al-Taweelah, al-Mahwit

The Civil Defense Authority at the Ministry of Interior has warned citizens in the city of al-Taweelah district in Mahwit province of rock slides.

The authority stated in a statement that the rocks overlooking the city of al-Taweelah in al-Mahwit province are about to fall and pose a serious threat to the lives of residents and public property.

The statement pointed out that those huge rocks lean on the edge of the Mount of Shamsan, which sits on the city of al-Taweelah next to it are several forts, which are al-Taweelah historical fort, Shamsan, Hajar al-Sayed, al-Qarane’i and al-Manqar.

It stressed that the situation calls for rapid intervention and response by the concerned authorities in the province, ministries, relevant bodies and humanitarian organizations in order to to take urgent preventive measures to avoid any potential rockslide and prevent the recurrence of the tragic disaster due to the rockslide in al-Dhafir city in Bani Matar District, in Sanaa province in 2005.

“A landslide occurred during the night of 28 December in al-Dhafir village, 50 km west of the capital of Sanaa, killing at least 30 .”
