White House ‘Alarmed’ by Frequency of Retaliatory Attacks Targeting Saudi Arabia
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki admitted that Saudi Arabia is facing real security threats, especially after the escalation of the offensive capabilities of the Yemeni Armed Forces, stressing that the United States continues to work closely with the Kingdom.
During a daily news briefing on Monday, Psaki said that the Biden administration remains alarmed by escalating attacks on Saudi Arabia, and that Saudi Arabia faces “genuine security threats” from Yemen’s Ansarullah and elsewhere in the region.
“We of course continue to work in close cooperation with the Saudis, given the threat,” Psaki added.
On Sunday, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the launching of drone and missile attacks on targets deep inside Saudi Arabia, noting that all targets were hit with high precision. The Armed Forces spokesman said that 14 Sammad and Qasef-2K drones as well as eight ballistic missiles were used in the attack, which targeted Saudi military bases in Dammam, Asir and Jizan regions. The operation also took aim at facilities of Saudi oil firm Aramco in Ra’s Tanura.
In turn, the Saudi authorities admitted that one of the oil tank yards in Ra’s Tanura port in Dhahran was attacked.
