Britain Confirms Keeping Air Defense Systems in Saudi Arabia
UK Minister of Defence James Heappey confirmed that his country would maintain air defense systems in Saudi Arabia to help counter the attacks of Ansarullah on the Kingdom.
Since February, the Yemeni forces have increased their drone and missile attacks on military targets and on the oil installations deep inside Saudi Arabia in retaliation for Riyadh’s all-out aggression against the country and the total blockade imposed on its people.
According to reports, there are British air defense systems in Saudi Arabia, as Riyadh has continued to purchase British weapons over the past year.
According to the Guardian, British officials authorised the export of almost £1.4bn of weapons to Saudi Arabia in the quarter after the UK resumed sales of weapons that could be used in the war in Yemen. This included weapons, smart bombs and tracking and surveillance systems.
Saudi Arabia is the largest buyer of British arms, according to what was mentioned on the Campaign Against Arms Trade site in the United Kingdom. The military deals between 2015 and 2017 exceeded the barrier of £13bn, most of the deals included weapons, ammunition and military equipment.
