Yemeni President Congratulates the National Junior Team on Winning The West Asian Championship
His Excellency President Mahdi Al-Mashat, the head of the Supreme Political Council, congratulated the national junior football team on the occasion of being crowned champion of the eighth West Asian Federation Championship for the first time in its history, after its victory over the Saudi team on penalties (4/3) after the two teams tied in the original time with a goal for the same. Our team opened the scoring by Mohammed Al-Barwani at the beginning of the second half, while the Saudi team, Mohammed Al-Essa, equalized in stoppage time for the match that was held on Monday evening in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The players of our national junior team presented a strong match and a collective performance that embodied the spirit of determination and challenge to achieve first place after a distinguished journey of performance and positive results.
The national team finished its campaign in the West Asian Championship successfully, after winning four victories that gave it an advantage over the competing teams, achieving an unprecedented achievement in the history of Yemeni football.
Yemen’s youth began their journey in the tournament by defeating the Jordanian team by three goals to one, and in the second match in the third group, our team defeated its Bahraini counterpart by five to qualify for the semi-finals after leading its group with six points.
In the semi-finals of the tournament, the junior team achieved a valuable victory over its Syrian counterpart, with two goals to one, in a strong match in which the tie continued until the last minutes of overtime.
In the final match, the national junior team entered the confrontation with Saudi Arabia with the ambition of achieving victory and ascending the podium to crown the efforts and dedication of the players with success and achieving victory with a goal and winning the West Asian Championship, giving the Yemeni people the joy of being crowned with the championship.
