Shameful briefing by “Hans” before the UN regarding the armistice in Yemen
In a shameful and fragile briefing by the UN envoy in Yemen, Hans Grundberg, regarding the humanitarian and military truce in Yemen, Hans’ statement revealed the extent to which the United Nations and the Security Council have manipulated the standards of international and humanitarian laws, norms and charters in a biased way.
In his statement, Hans said that he had intensified his contacts with the parties in support of the implementation of all provisions of the armistice and to explore opportunities to expand its scope and extend its term beyond August 2, adding, “The extension and expansion of the armistice will increase the benefits that accrue to the Yemeni people, and will provide a platform to build more confidence between the parties, and the start of serious discussions about economic priorities such as revenues and salaries, and security priorities, including the ceasefire. The ultimate goal is to move towards a political settlement that comprehensively ends the conflict.”
Moreover, Hans is attempting to raise media attention before the United Nations and the world, while he did not bring anything new except for the intuitions that everyone knows and words on paper that were not applied in reality. In fact, Yemen is still suffering greatly as a result of the siege and aggression by the forces of the coalition of aggression and their mercenaries, under the auspices of the United Nations.
Hans pointed out that thanks to the continued commitment of the parties, the armistice largely held for nearly four months, which represented one of the longest periods of relative calm after more than seven years of what he called the ongoing conflict, during which the total number of civilian casualties decreased compared to their numbers before the armistice, Ignoring the statistics that Sanaa showed more than once about the violations of the aggression that have exceeded all expectations.
Hans’ statement also attempted to completely turn a blind eye to the initiatives of the Supreme Political Council and the national delegation regarding opening roads and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people. In addition, he deliberately neglected the implemented initiatives done by Sanaa, such as the initiatives of the Supreme Political Council that opened more than one road from one side after the other party refused to implement its obligations of the truce. Thus, this confirms the lack of seriousness of the United Nations and its envoy to pressure the other party to open roads and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
However, Hans, in his statement, could not block the sunlight from the Yemeni people, through the failure of the other party to comply with the armistice agreement through the conduct of the agreed flights and obstruction of the other party under UN auspices to implement this, as Hans admitted that within the framework of the armistice, the parties agreed to two commercial flights per week between Sanaa, Amman and Cairo, with a total of 36 flights during the four-month period. So far, only 20 flights have been operated between Sana’a and Amman, and one trip between Sana’a and Cairo, all carrying more than 8000 passengers, in a clear admission of the other party’s obstruction of the armistice agreement.
Hans’s statements also had some indirect confessions to the failure of the other party to comply with the provisions of the armistice, which state that 36 fuel ships must be entered the port of Hodeidah during the four-month period. However, between April 2 and July 21, only 26 fuel vessels entered Hodeidah port carrying 720,270 metric tons of fuel derivatives.
