Dozens of fishermen arrive in Hodeidah after months of being detained in Eritrea

Dozens of Yemeni fishermen have arrived in Hodeidah governorate after more than five months of detention in Eritrean prisons.

A source in the Ministry of Fisheries told the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the fishermen were arrested by the Eritrean navy while they were fishing off the Yemeni coast, and they were transferred to torture camps on the Eritrean coast after their boats and fishing equipment were confiscated.

He confirmed the escalation of arrests and detentions carried out by the Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen while practicing their activities off the Hunaish archipelago, which includes the Greater and Lesser Hunaish islands and Jabal Zuqar, which is administratively affiliated to Hodeidah.

The source indicated that most of the fishermen were subjected to hard labor during their detention, some of them were tortured, and that one of them had his hands broken.

The m8nistry called on the Eritrean authorities to release the rest of the detained fishermen and respect the agreements and treaties.
