US Continues Aggressive Push to Obstruct Peace Efforts in Yemen

The United States has continued its aggressive push to obstruct just peace efforts in Yemen, reaffirming last Tuesday its commitment to providing military support to the Saudi regime, in order to maintain aggression and the blockade. This comes in conjunction with the arrival of the US Secretary of State to the kingdom, in a visit that observers believe has a negative impact on the peace process, especially in light of the continued hostile actions of the US ambassador to the mercenary government.

The US Department of State confirmed on its official website on Tuesday that the United States is “committed to enhancing the security partnership with Saudi Arabia” through arms sales “that will support the defensive infrastructure, air, and missile capabilities” of the kingdom, making it “more integrated”, as well as through “participation in joint exercises and countering the proliferation of drones and missiles to non-governmental entities that threaten peace and security in the region,” according to the statement.

This confirmation clearly indicates that the United States is openly pushing for the continuation of aggression and blockade under the pretext of “protecting the kingdom,” which in turn confirms that Washington still clings to its hostile stance towards the Yemeni people and refuses to implement their demands, which it previously described as “impossible” and “unrealistic.”

This statement coincides with the arrival of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Saudi Arabia, in the second visit by a US official to Saudi Arabia within a month, where US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan visited the kingdom on May 7 to discuss several files, including the Yemeni file.

Observers believe that Blinken’s visit will add further complications to the peace negotiations scene between Sana’a and Riyadh, given the US’s continued insistence on obstructing peace efforts and pushing Riyadh to continue aggression and blockade.

Since the end of the negotiation round that took place in the capital Sana’a during Ramadan with the Saudi side in the presence of the Omani mediation, the United States has intensified its efforts to obstruct peace efforts by sending many of its officials to the kingdom to prevent Riyadh from responding to the demands of the Yemeni people.

After the visit of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to the kingdom last month, Riyadh showed more signs of responsiveness to the US will in regard to the Yemeni file, where it pushed more towards procrastination and hesitation, and intensified its misleading media attempts to present itself as a mediator, parallel to attempts to tarnish and target national leaders, foremost among them President Mahdi al-Mashat.

Saudi media tried this week to broadcast misleading materials and news aimed at stirring up local public opinion and inciting the street against the national authority, which is a clear additional indicator of the Saudi regime’s alignment with the US directions that seek to use the truce as a cover to shuffle the cards and penetrate the internal front.

In response, Sana’a sent strong messages asserting that procrastination will lead to the exhaustion of patience and warned Saudi Arabia that it will not be immune from the repercussions of the continued aggression, blockade, and suffering of the Yemeni people, threatening with using military deterrent options.

Observers expect that Blinken’s visit to the kingdom will push Riyadh towards more intransigence, especially in the absence of any indications reflecting Saudi Arabia’s desire to deviate from the US directions.

The leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, had confirmed in his last speech that Saudi Arabia is moving within an American-allowed margin, and that resorting to a truce in Yemen came within this margin, which aims not only to buy time but also to continue conspiring against the Yemeni people.

Recent movements and aggressive stances of the American ambassador to the mercenary government, Steven Fagin, confirm the suspicion that he is attempting to manipulate the situation by pushing mercenaries to the forefront, using them as a cover for Washington’s escalatory tendencies, which aim to impede peace efforts.

In this context, the US embassy’s Twitter account stated that Fagin met with the so-called Defense Minister of the mercenary government, Mohsen Al-Dhaheri, on Monday to discuss what he called “efforts to combat the smuggling of illegal Iranian-origin materials to Yemen.” This clear-cut statement indicates that Washington is continuing to fabricate justifications to maintain the blockade and to establish and expand the presence of foreign forces in the occupied provinces, coasts, and Yemeni islands under the pretext of combating smuggling.

In recent days, Ambassador Fagin has intensified his meetings with the leaders of the mercenary government and members of the so-called “Presidential Council” formed by Saudi Arabia. These meetings have expressed clear escalatory intentions to continue starving the Yemeni people of their legitimate rights and national wealth.
