UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric expressed his deep concern over the escalating Zionist attacks on the health system in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Dujarric said in a statement today, Tuesday: According to the Lebanese authorities, 36 incidents were reported in which Zionist raids targeted health care facilities between October 8 of last year and October 4 of this month.
Dujarric indicated that at least 96 primary health care centers and three hospitals were forced to close due to “hostilities,” referring to the Zionist bombing of the southern suburbs of Beirut.
He added: The attacks did not only affect the facilities, but also affected health workers, as “the World Health Organization estimated the number of health workers killed in the same period at 77 people.”
He stressed that the United Nations health partners are supporting the Lebanese health authorities and delivering additional trauma and emergency kits to hospitals, as well as medicines.
The UN spokesman also reported that the water infrastructure has also been affected, with at least 25 water facilities damaged, affecting 300,000 people. He added that his organization’s partners are providing drinking water to people in collective shelters.
He explained that the ongoing “hostilities” and displacement orders continue to cause people to flee, especially from the south of the country and the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, where the International Organization for Migration has recorded more than 540,000 displaced people since October 8, 2023
