UN: The abortion rate among Gaza women has reached 300% due to the war of extermination

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Al-Salem, stated that “the situation in Gaza has reached dimensions that modern history has not witnessed.”
Al-Salem confirmed in a press statement today, Sunday, that “Israeli attacks on Palestinian women constitute part of a systematic genocide strategy,” noting that “killing Palestinian women simply because they are women is a war crime and a crime against humanity.”
The UN rapporteur added that “targeting women and destroying reproductive health is a tool of Israeli genocide in Gaza.”
Al-Salem explained that “an overview of Israel’s actions clearly reveals that its targeting of the reproductive capacity of Palestinians contributes to achieving these goals.”
She also mentioned that the UN Convention on the Prevention of Genocide prohibits acts aimed at preventing births within a specific group.
Al-Salem explained that “by gathering all the evidence, we see that the destruction of the health sector, abandoning newborns to their fate, and creating tragic conditions for pregnant and lactating women, all represent tools of Israeli genocidal violence aimed at destroying the continuity of Palestinian reproduction.”
On the other hand, Al-Salem pointed to the devastating impact of attacks on women and children, based on data from the United Nations Population Fund.
She said: “800,000 women have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and about one million women and girls suffer from severe food insecurity.” The UN official also noted that “abortion rates have increased by 300% due to lack of medical care, psychological trauma, and bombing.”
She concluded by saying: “This is not only about genocide, but also includes deliberate killing and the complete destruction of legal concepts related to war.”
