The three members of the UN Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights Violations in Occupied Palestine submitted their resignations on Monday evening, paving the way for the formation of a new commission to assume the task.
Despite the resignation, the commission is scheduled to present its next report during the UN General Assembly meeting, which will be held next September at the organization's headquarters in New York.
The resigning team consists of the commission's chair, South African Judge Navi Pillay; Australian commission member Chris Sidoti; and Indian commission member Miloon Kothari.
The committee, formed in 2021, concluded in a report issued last March that "Israel" had committed acts of genocide and systematic violations against Palestinians throughout the occupied territories since October 7, 2023.
The report also indicated that the Israeli army possessed detailed maps of health facilities and their functions, which had been deliberately targeted and destroyed.
In its previous report, the committee confirmed that it possessed evidence proving that Israeli attacks on health facilities and institutions were deliberate, noting the international community's disregard and denial of the violations committed against the Palestinian people.
