The Central Bank of Yemen issued Governor’s Decision No. (2) of 1447 AH on Monday, prohibiting the defacement of second-issue 200 Riyal banknotes. Forms of defacement include writing, drawing, stamping, engraving, perforation, or altering the note’s size.

Defaced banknotes are now considered void and unfit for circulation. The decision also bans financial and non-financial institutions from accepting or circulating such currency.

Violators will be held legally accountable and subject to penalties, according to the Central Bank.
