The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) reported that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have arrested about 22,000 Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since the start of the genocide war on the Gaza Strip on 7 October, October 2023, including women and children, amid escalating violations.
More than 9,300 prisoners are currently held in Israeli prisons, amid reports of torture and starvation, while the IOF attacks in the West Bank in the same period have resulted in 1,112 martyrs and 11,500 injured.
PPS said in a statement issued on Thursday that the number of arrest cases in the West Bank and Jerusalem has risen to about 22,000 since the start of the crime of genocide.
PPS explained that this figure includes those who remain in detention and those who were later released, confirming that this data represents a historic difference in the number of people subjected to arrest within only two and a half years.
It added that the statistics do not include arrest cases in the Gaza Strip, which are estimated to be in the thousands, nor the arrest campaigns in 1948 occupied Palestine.
PPS pointed out that arrest operations in the West Bank are ongoing at an escalating pace, as Israeli forces arrested at least 40 citizens from Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning, including 3 women and a child, in addition to released prisoners, without specifying their number.
The PPS added that arrest campaigns are accompanied by unprecedented violations, including beatings, terrorizing detainees and their families, as well as vandalizing homes and confiscating vehicles, money, and gold jewelry.
It noted that the army has conducted field interrogations since the start of the genocide that targeted thousands of Palestinians, during which soldiers committed crimes no less serious than torture crimes in interrogation and detention centers.
According to a statement by the Society, the number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons by February 5, exceeded 9,300 Palestinians, including 56 female prisoners, 350 children, and 3,358 administrative detainees.
These prisoners suffer from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, which has led to the deaths of dozens of them, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights reports.
