Mohammed Raad, the head of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc in the Lebanese Parliament, urged the authorities in his country on Thursday evening to thoroughly and objectively read the text of the understanding document reached between Iran and the United States. He emphasized the need to extract the facts and future prospects that will heavily influence the reality of the region and the world, including Lebanon.
In a press statement, Raad said: "Following the signing of the understanding document regarding the procedures to end the state of war between Iran—an ally of Lebanon as a state, people, and resistance—and America, which some elements of the government claim is an ally and friend of Lebanon, I call on the authorities to read the text of the understanding document carefully and objectively. They must extract the facts and prospects that will cast their weight on the reality of the region and the world, including our beloved Lebanon."
He also urged the Lebanese authorities to be cautious against underestimating Iran's ability to fulfill its commitment to deter the Zionist enemy, should the latter insist on violating the contents of the understanding document that covers it.
Raad added: "I bring to the government's attention that the timeframe available for the enemy to completely retreat from Lebanese land is exactly two months. Within this period, the enemy must strictly commit to a complete cessation of hostile acts by land, sea, and air, and must prepare and commence its withdrawal within sixty days, without any need for direct negotiations with them whatsoever."
He continued: "Beyond that, after reaching a national consensus in accordance with pact-based, constitutional, and legal procedures, the government can adopt a formula of indirect negotiations with the enemy to reactivate the armistice agreement in a manner consistent with reality, and in light of the continuous state of animosity that is nationally and constitutionally agreed upon."
Raad stressed that "the resistance, for its part, advises the government not to engage directly with the Zionist enemy in targeting the resistance, as this goes against the interests of Lebanon and the Lebanese people."
He further stated: "On the other hand, on behalf of those represented by the resistance in Lebanon, we say to the officials of the government that the enemy's war to eliminate the resistance in Lebanon has failed and has not, and will not, achieve its goals."
He concluded: "Despite everything the resistance has been subjected to by certain elements of the authorities and some political factions in the country, it confirms its readiness for domestic national understanding on what guarantees the security, stability, and sovereign national interest of Lebanon. This comes without intimidation from a Zionist enemy whose aggression we will never surrender to no matter how brutal it becomes, and without making excuses based on pressures—pressures to which the government's yielding has resulted in nothing but failure and a slide toward submission to what is dictated by the enemy and its American ally, whom the government claims is its friend."
