Pro-Palestinian protesters in Greece, on Tuesday, prevented a cruise ship carrying hundreds of Israeli tourists from docking at the port of Syros, in protest against the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
Photos and videos circulating on social media showed dozens of Greek demonstrators waving a massive Palestinian flag at the port, as passengers aboard the ship responded by raising Israeli flags from the decks.
According to Israel's Channel 12, the Crown Iris—a large cruise ship operated by Mano Shipping—was met with hundreds of protesters upon arrival in Syros. Demonstrators chanted slogans condemning Israel and the war in Gaza.
The channel reported that the protest was pre-planned and that local authorities were notified in advance, leading to heightened security measures in the area.
Protesters expressed outrage over the ship's presence, saying on social media that allowing Israeli tourists to disembark was inappropriate while Palestinians in Gaza are facing siege and suffering under Israeli bombardment.
The ship’s management issued a statement saying:
“As in several places across Europe, the island of Syros is witnessing a demonstration by dozens of pro-Palestinian supporters today. We are in contact with local authorities, and as a result, there is a slight delay in passenger disembarkation.”
Israel’s official broadcasting authority also reported that Greek authorities instructed Israeli passengers to remain on board until the demonstration was dispersed.
This protest is part of a wave of growing demonstrations across several European capitals, where activists have been calling for an end to the war in Gaza and demanding the lifting of the blockade on the Palestinian enclave, in condemnation of what they describe as Israel's ongoing genocidal crimes.
