Gaza’s Civil Status Directorate said 1,701 newborns and 159 deaths were registered across the Gaza Strip in May, according to figures released by the Interior Ministry on Monday.

The data showed that 919 of the newborns were boys, making up 54% of total births, while 782 were girls, or 46%.

Gaza governorate recorded the highest number of births with 635 newborns, followed by Khan Yunis with 286 and northern Gaza with 282. The central governorate registered 273 births, while Rafah recorded 225.

The directorate also reported 159 deaths during the month, including 115 males, or 72.3%, and 44 females, or 27.7%.

The figures reflect Gaza’s civil registration activity amid severe humanitarian and living conditions caused by the war and its ongoing repercussions.
