The Asra Media Office (AMO) issued on Monday an updated fact sheet entitled “Conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons”, in which it reviewed the conditions of Palestinian and Arab prisoners and detainees in light of the escalating violations inside Israeli prisons since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
The sheet indicated that there are more than 9,500 Palestinian and Arab prisoners and detainees in the Israeli prisons, confirming the deterioration of their incarceration and health conditions as a result of the continuous tightening policies.
The sheet monitored the worsening suffering of prisoners due to the policy of starvation and overcrowding inside the sections, and the spread of skin diseases, in addition to the severe shortage of hygiene materials and clothes, and the continuation of medical negligence against the sick and wounded.
It also highlighted the escalating crimes of torture and sexual violence against prisoners, pointing to the documentation of dozens of cases during the past period.
It explained that the documented violations also included repeated suppression campaigns inside prisons, the expansion in the use of administrative detention, and restrictions on family visits and legal representation for prisoners.
The sheet reviewed the conditions of prisoners in a number of main prisons, confirming that the current circumstances reflect a sharp decline in their humanitarian and incarceration conditions.
The AMO confirmed that the data contained in the sheet indicates the continuation of systematic policies targeting prisoners inside Israeli detention centers, calling on international and human rights institutions to take urgent action to stop violations and ensure that those responsible for them are held accountable under international law.
