Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the latest regional and international developments following recent events during a phone call with his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot. The discussion focused on mechanisms to stabilize the calm, as well as the role of the international community and major powers in protecting emerging diplomatic pathways.
Araghchi held the United States directly responsible for ending the escalation, asserting to his French counterpart: "We emphasize the responsibility of the United States in ending the war and stopping hostilities across various fronts, including Lebanon."
The Iranian Foreign Minister added that "the current phase requires serious international efforts to ensure the stabilization of the calm and prevent the expansion of the conflict," while stressing at the same time that "this stage requires creating the necessary conditions for political and diplomatic solutions."
Regarding the recent agreement and its reflections on bilateral relations between Tehran and Paris, Araghchi pointed to the positive prospects for the upcoming period, stating: "The memorandum of understanding with the United States has created new opportunities to strengthen relations between Iran and France, particularly in the economic and commercial fields."
The Iranian Minister concluded by emphasizing: "We stress the need to provide strong and comprehensive support from the UN Security Council to ensure the implementation of the memorandum of understanding."
This call comes following the signing of a memorandum of understanding to stop the war by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, who placed his signature on the memorandum during his participation in a dinner banquet at the Palace of Versailles in France.
It also comes just before a meeting is set to be held between the delegations of the United States and Iran in the Swiss city of Geneva, in the presence of an envoy from the Pakistani government acting as the mediator in the talks.
