The head of the pediatric department at the Indonesian Hospital confirmed on Thursday that the ongoing blockade and the denial of aid are significantly impacting the department’s services.
He explained that most of the cases arriving at the hospital are due to malnutrition. He emphasized that children in the Gaza Strip suffer from immune deficiency due to malnutrition and the lack of fruits, vegetables, and healthy food.
Earlier, Mr. Ahmed Al-Farra, Director of Al-Tahrir Hospital at Nasser Medical Complex, confirmed that children in the Gaza Strip are in the most severe stages of malnutrition, and that medical follow-up is difficult due to the lack of therapeutic medications and infant formula.
He explained that the case of “Osama Al-Raqab” epitomizes the suffering of children in Gaza due to the lack of proper nutrition and drinking water.
He emphasized that the Gaza Strip is in the fifth stage of malnutrition, the most severe stage according to the World Health Organization.
Al-Farra pointed out that the lack of adequate nutrition and medication for pregnant mothers seriously impacts newborns, especially premature babies.
He stated that the continued blockade of food and medicine supplies indicates that the children of the Gaza Strip are facing a dangerous and catastrophic situation.
