The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said that several drones were seen flying over the ship Handala, which set sail from the Italian coast in a renewed attempt to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

In a statement shared Saturday on the coalition’s Telegram channel, the group said: “Sixteen drones were spotted in the last 45 minutes, and some were flying directly above the ship.”

In another post, French Member of Parliament Gabrielle Catala said: “We’re ready for any possible action that could happen in the next few hours or by tomorrow morning.”

She added: “We are united, standing together in solidarity, and we’re prepared. The drones are coming toward us. If the internet goes down, strange things might happen.”

She continued: “Don’t worry about us—think about the Palestinians. They are the ones suffering. What they’re going through under this terrible genocide is far worse than the risks we’re facing on this ship.”

On Thursday, the coalition said it had lost contact with Handala, and reported seeing multiple drones near the ship. “This may mean the ship was intercepted or attacked,” the statement said.

By early Friday, contact with the ship was restored after about two hours, and the coalition confirmed that the mission was continuing. At that time, the ship was around 349 nautical miles from Gaza.

Handala began its journey on July 13 from the port of Syracuse, Italy. It stopped in Gallipoli on July 15 to fix some technical issues, then continued toward Gaza on July 20 with 21 activists on board.
