Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Abdulwahed Abu Ras affirmed the strength of historical relations between Yemen and Russia and stressed efforts to expand cooperation across various fields.
During a phone call with Russian Ambassador to Yemen Yevgeny Koudrov, Abu Ras praised Russia’s balanced stance regarding the aggression on Yemen, as well as its continued calls for peace and stability in the country.
He also commended Russia’s position on the Palestinian cause, the Israeli enemy’s aggression against Lebanon, and the US–Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
For his part, the Russian ambassador reaffirmed Moscow’s support for efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen and its backing of humanitarian initiatives to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Yemen–Russia relations have remained a notable channel of political engagement amid the ongoing war and deep regional polarization.
Sana’a authorities have increasingly highlighted Moscow’s positions as comparatively “balanced” in relation to regional conflicts, particularly its criticism of Western-led military interventions and its opposition to the Israeli enemy’s actions in Palestine and Lebanon.
At the same time, Russia has sought to maintain a diplomatic presence in the Yemeni file, supporting UN-led political efforts and calling for a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
This engagement comes as Yemen continues to experience a complex humanitarian and political crisis shaped by foreign interventions, shifting regional alliances, and broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
