Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed bilateral relations and regional developments with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, focusing particularly on the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides exchanged views regarding the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with Article 5 of the U.S.-Iranian Memorandum of Understanding.

The statement further explained that the Omani Foreign Minister reaffirmed to Araghchi the Sultanate of Oman's principled stance on relying on diplomacy to prevent escalation in the region, expressing hope that the regional security situation would improve through the full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Araghchi had arrived in the Omani capital, Muscat, on Saturday to discuss the management arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz and regional developments.

This visit coincides with repeated assurances from Iranian officials that the management of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz will be exclusively confined to the littoral states (Iran and the Sultanate of Oman), with an emphasis that its reopening will be conducted according to their own arrangements.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated in press remarks on Friday evening that Araghchi's visit to Muscat comes as "a continuation of the consultations we initiated with Oman over the past two months regarding the issue of the Strait of Hormuz."

Baghaei confirmed that the strait is one of the "primary issues" in the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the United States on June 18, 2026, to end the war.

He added that "in accordance with what was agreed upon, we were supposed to consult and cooperate with Oman in this regard. Several rounds of technical meetings have been held so far, both in Tehran and Muscat."
