UN: 80% of Yemenis need humanitarian assistance
United Nations spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said that Yemen remains the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, but it is one of the most effective crises despite the difficult operating environment.
He added, according to the “News of the United Nations”, that humanitarian organizations including the United Nations provide humanitarian aid to 12 million people throughout the country this year, which means it is the largest aid operation in the world.
He continued: “About 24.1 million people, or 80% of the Yemeni population, need some form of humanitarian assistance.”
Dujarric confirmed: “At least 5.1 million people in 75 regions do not have access to humanitarian aid due to restrictions imposed by the authorities.
He noted that 3.3 million people are still internally displaced throughout the country, noting that about half a million people have been displaced in this year.
“An estimated 7.4 million people need food assistance, including 3.2 million people who need treatment for acute malnutrition,” the UN spokesman aaded.
