FM meets IOM’s Resident Representative in Sanaa
Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Tuesday met with Resident Representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Sanaa Christa Rottensteiner.
During the meeting, they discussed the exacerbation of the problem of illegal immigration flow to Yemen and the serious implications and consequences of that, especially in light of the spread of Corona virus (COVID-19).
The Foreign Minister called on the IOM to support quarantine centers and make effective efforts to help illegal migrants return to their countries.
In the meeting, the Foreign Minister handed IOM’s Resident Representative a letter to IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino, concerning the deportation of illegal immigrants by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from its lands to Yemen, in light of the escalation of humanitarian challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued aggression and siege.
Sharaf reaffirmed the Salvation Government’s keenness to provide the necessary support and facilities for the success of the tasks of the organization and its employees working in Yemen.
For her part, Rottensteiner confirmed that the organization seeks to exert more efforts to serve the interests of the Yemeni people, calling for providing more facilities, including allowing freedom of movement between the provinces.
