Thousands of Israeli settlers continue to demand Netanyahu’s resignation
Thousands of “Israeli” settlers took part in protests in al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Saturday against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, denouncing his corruption and his government’s handling of the Coronavirus epidemic.
A large crowd gathered in the streets surrounding Netanyahu’s official residence to demand his resignation. Some protesters clashed with police, who detained at least seven people while a police officer was injured, Reuters reported.
Anti-government protests gained momentum over the summer, with protesters accusing Netanyahu of being preoccupied with a lawsuit accusing him of corruption and increasing cases of coronavirus.
The Prime Minister denies any wrongdoing.
On Friday, Israel coronavirus cases exceeded the 100,000, registering 809 deaths out of the 9 million residents of the occupation entity. The occupation entity is experiencing economic stagnation and unemployment of more than 20 percent.
Netanyahu denounced the demonstrations and accused the demonstrators of insulting democracy and the Hebrew media by encouraging them.
He said that Israel’s economy is in a better position compared to the economies of many developed countries hit by the pandemic.
