The Foreign Affairs Minister calls for the release of Yemeni detainees in Kenya

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, discussed today, Sunday, with the Resident Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Sana’a, Jane Nicholas Pius, the activities of the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees in Yemen.

At the meeting, the Minister delivered a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, requesting urgent intervention in following up the situation of Yemeni citizens detained by the Kenyan authorities in the Garcia region on the Kenyan-Somali borders in accordance with the 1951 Refugee Status Convention and its 1967 Protocol.

“Despite the political blockade imposed on Yemen, including the Foreign Affairs Ministry , it didn’t and will not stop following and protecting the interests of Yemenis wherever they are ,” he said.
