More than 3,000 civilians are victims of cluster bombs of aggression in Yemen

The Executive Center for Mine Action confirmed that more than 3,841 civilians were killed, wounded and injured, most of them children and women, as a result of cluster bombs dropped by the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition in Yemen during the period 2015-2021.

In a statement, the Center stated that the total number of dead reached (1019) civilians, including (115) children, and (39) women, while the number of wounded reached (2822) civilians, including (241) children, and (76) women, in an unending toll. .

The center confirmed that the Monitoring and Documentation Department in the program monitored the various destructive effects of cluster bombs, which destroyed more than 809 farms and thousands of tons of agricultural crops, in addition to 547 grazing areas.

The center confirmed the spread of cluster bombs in the Hodeida districts described that as a disaster, considering it a stricken province. It pointed out that it has not received any supplies to mark dangerous areas until today.

The program stressed the necessity of intervention by humanitarian partners, including the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation and the rest of the international organizations, to reduce casualties.

The center stated in a statement that one of the main objectives of the Ottawa Convention (implementation of non-technical survey) is to determine the size and scope of pollution and assess the extent of the mine problem, but this activity has been stopped in the areas under the administration of the Government of National Salvation and the funding for its implementation has not been approved by the United Nations Development Program.

The statement indicated that despite the importance of this activity and defining the scope of pollution in Hodeidah governorate, the Executive Center in Sana’a carried out the non-technical survey by the technical survey teams working in the governorate, where the survey covered 100 affected areas and isolated areas with an estimated area of ​​40 million square meters, 40% Including high impact and residential areas.
