The National Center for Oncology Reviews the Damages ,Effects of the Aggression On Cancer Patients
Today, Tuesday, the National Center for Oncology held a press conference to present the statistics of the damage and effects of aggression on the therapeutic side of tumors, the size of the difficulties and challenges faced by the therapeutic work and the exacerbation of disease cases.
The Director-General of the National Center for Oncology, Dr. Abdullah Thawabeh, explained that the rate of cancer incidence has increased, during the past seven years, by more than 50% compared to before.
Thawabeh stated that the number of cases received by the Oncology Center amounted to 78,000 patients, including 37,000 patients during the past few years.
The director of the center said that there is a lack of more than 50% of medicines for cancer patients, especially targeted and chemical medicines due to the reluctance of suppliers to import them as a result of the obstacles of the aggression countries to their entry.
He added that the death rate in cases of cancer patients increased, reaching 300 deaths annually from cancer patients.
Dr. Thawabeh issued an urgent distress call, warning that the center’s activities would stop during the next two months as a result of the continued prevention of the aggression against the entry of oil derivatives into the country.
For his part, Deputy Director General of the Center, Dr. Ali Al-Mansour, confirmed that there is an annual increase in the number of cancer cases by 20%.
In addition, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Jahaf, said that more than 3,000 cancer patients need to travel for treatment abroad and their lives are threatened due to the closure of Sana’a International Airport and the ban on entry of medicines.
He added: We are witnessing catastrophic repercussions of the World Health Organization’s announcement to stop the entry of cancer drugs into Yemen, and the obstacles of the aggression countries to their entry.
