130 US lawmakers support a law ending military support for Saudi Arabia
The American “Responsible Statecraft” Institute said that the war authorities in America approved cutting military aid to Saudi Arabia’s war on Yemen.
In a statement, the institute confirmed that this decision has broad support from the Democratic and Republican parties, pointing out that a rapid legislative process is taking place in this direction.
The institute stressed that Biden have called for a reassessment of relations with Riyadh, while members of the US Congress have proposed legislation, if enacted as a law, that would do so effectively and change the US-Saudi relationship.
According to the report, it was made clear that the United States will not provide the military assistance needed to resume Saudi airstrikes in Yemen. This way, Congress can continue to pressure the warring parties in Yemen to negotiate an end to this disastrous war.
In addition, it will send a clear message to the Saudi regime that there will be consequences due to the manipulation of oil prices. Saudi Arabia has also showed an aggressive behavior and notorious record in the field of human rights. Also, the path of Saudi Arabia’s return from the status of a pariah must begin by lifting its brutal siege and ending its disastrous war on Yemen.
Moreover, the original War Powers Resolution of 1973 was passed into law as a step towards ridding the United States of the Vietnam War. The article noted that activating the World War Report in Yemen may lead to a fundamental change in the relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia by ending US support for the Saudi war in Yemen.
As the Institute explains, this will show Mohammed bin Salman that American support is unconditional. The passed bill already enjoys great support in Congress, including 118 sponsors in the House of Representatives and 12 sponsors in the Senate.
