The United States Obstructs Peace in Yemen
Observers have warned of the United States’ continued efforts to obstruct peace in Yemen, following negative statements made by the American envoy, Tim Lenderking, a few days ago. In his statements, Lenderking confirmed his country’s insistence on rejecting the demands of the Yemeni people and continuing its attempts to impose its flawed perceptions on the negotiation table between Sana’a and the coalition countries.
Deputy Director of the Department of Moral Guidance at the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Abdullah bin Amer, pointed to American opposition to some points that had previously been agreed upon between Sana’a and Riyadh.
Last Ramadan, the capital, Sana’a, hosted a round of direct negotiations between the national leadership and the Saudi side, attended by the Omani mediation delegation. The round was described as “positive and serious,” and it was supposed to be followed by another round after the Saudi delegation concluded its consultations with its leadership regarding the discussed issues.
However, the Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat quoted the American envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, as making negative statements in which he confirmed that Washington “does not see” the possibility of achieving any progress in the essential files, including the resources and salaries file, except through Yemeni-Yemeni negotiations. This clearly reflects the American insistence on imposing the erroneous concept of a “civil war,” which allows the coalition countries to evade their primary commitments to real peace.
Observers believe that Lenderking’s statements reflect the White House’s keenness to reverse the negotiation process and block the positive prospects that had recently opened up due to the efforts of the Omani mediators.
Brigadier General Bin Amer sees that the “Saudi desire to exit Yemen may decline as a result of the American movement, which is based on trying to impose a specific vision of peace based on fragmentation, postponement, and indecision, with the aim of keeping the conflict in a state of calm and igniting it when needed.”
The leader of the revolution, Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badreddin Al-Houthi, previously confirmed that the United States is working on several paths to obstruct peace efforts, including pushing mercenaries as a main party in peace negotiations, which Lenderking clearly expressed in his recent statements.
Earlier, the President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, described the American envoy Lenderking as the “harbinger of doom,” expressing the negative role he played during the previous stages by obstructing and thwarting all the understandings reached between Sana’a and the coalition countries.
Lenderking’s statements are in line with the ongoing aggressive American movements against the Yemeni people, including efforts to strengthen foreign military presence in the occupied provinces, attempts to return to the plundering of Yemeni wealth, and the continued direction towards maintaining and tightening the criminal blockade imposed on the country under false pretexts.
