UN Ex-Envoy Exposes Profit Motives and Hypocrisy in Int’l Community’s Yemen Conflict Stance
In a recent statement that confirms the international community’s keenness on prolonging the war in Yemen, and exposes the falsehood of peace slogans raised by the countries sponsoring the aggression coalition, former UN Envoy to Yemen, Jamal Ben Omar, stated that the Security Council’s view on the Yemeni issue is governed by opportunistic criteria and material interests sought by major countries behind the continuation of the conflict. He pointed out that the solution in Yemen begins with ending foreign interventions, confirming the correctness of the national position.
In an interview with Al Jazeera on Friday, Ben Omar said that “the main countries in the United Nations Security Council have come to see Yemen after the outbreak of the war as an opportunity to sell weapons.” He added that “there is competition between these countries to sell weapons and sign very large and unimaginable contracts.”
This statement is supported by the large figures of military deals signed by many major countries, including the United States, Britain, and France, with the Saudi and Emirati regimes to supply them with capabilities, abilities, weapons, and consultations to continue the war on the Yemeni people. Some of these deals are still active, generating large sums for these countries, as is the case with contracts for the maintenance of Saudi warplanes, which the United States benefits from, in addition to weapon sales, training, and provision of information.
The former envoy’s statement explains the continuous negative stance of the Security Council towards the Yemeni issue, clearly expressed by the proceedings of all sessions held to discuss the Yemeni matter, as well as by the collusion of United Nations representatives in Yemen with the aggression countries and their submission to the dictations and desires of their international sponsors.
Ben Omar had submitted his resignation from his position as UN Envoy to Yemen in the early days of the aggression on Yemen, having confronted the Security Council with the truth about the reasons that failed the political agreement in the country, most notably the Saudi intervention and the announcement of what was called “Operation Decisive Storm,” which angered Saudi Arabia and its international sponsors.
Numerous interviews and press meetings conducted by Ben Omar in recent years have included clear confirmations of the falsehood of all the justifications and propaganda promoted to launch the aggression on Yemen.
In his latest interview with Al Jazeera, the former envoy clarified that Hadi’s authority before the war was reluctant to implement the outcomes of the National Dialogue, pointing out that there had been attempts to impose certain visions without the agreement of many components, including Ansar Allah and the Southern Movement.
He stated that the solution in Yemen begins with stopping the interventions of countries benefiting from the continuation of the conflict.
These statements confirm the correctness of the national position insisting on the necessity of ending all forms of foreign intervention, including military intervention, the blockade, and the presence of foreign forces.
