Omani Mediation Delegation Leaves Sana’a with Warnings of Negative Consequences
The Omani mediation delegation left Sana’a on Sunday, accompanied by the head of the national delegation, to the Omani capital Muscat, after completing a visit that included a meeting with the President of the Yemen, Mahdi Al-Mashat. During the meeting, the President confirmed that Sana’a’s patience is about to end and warned that the continued procrastination and turning of humanitarian entitlements into bargaining papers by the aggression states would have negative consequences.
Sources from “Al-Masirah” reported that the Omani mediation delegation conducted a series of consultations during its visit to Sana’a before leaving with the head of the national delegation, Mohammed Abdulsalam. The official “Saba” news agency reported that President Mahdi Al-Mashat met with the mediators at the Presidential Palace before they left Sana’a. The President welcomed them and praised Oman’s efforts and endeavors to achieve peace, despite facing obstinacy from the aggression states.
During the meeting, President Al-Mashat confirmed that it is no longer acceptable to continue in the current situation that Yemenis live in under continued aggression, siege, and starvation. He reinforced this message by stating that it is not acceptable to turn humanitarian entitlements, such as disbursing salaries, opening Sana’a airport, and removing restrictions on Hodeidah ports, into a subject of negotiation.
The President pointed out that Sana’a has proven its keenness on fair peace that guarantees the rights of Yemenis. He confirmed that the ball is now in the court of the aggression states, which must prove their seriousness in peace by presenting practical steps in implementing Yemenis’ demands.
The head of the national delegation, Mohammed Abdulsalam, confirmed days ago that no building will be done on any intentions on the part of the other party except after starting to implement humanitarian steps. President Al-Mashat charged the Omani mediation delegation with serious warnings about the consequences of continuing procrastination and refusing to implement Yemenis’ demands. He confirmed that Yemenis’ patience is about to run out, and they have every right to defend themselves if peace doors are closed by the enemy.
The visit of an Omani delegation to Sana’a coincided with a new tour by White House envoy Tim Lenderking to the region. Observers considered it as part of US efforts to cut off any understandings reached by mediators because Washington pushes towards continuing aggression and siege. According to US foreign affairs, Lenderking met with UN representative Hans Grundberg in Yemen to discuss visiting an Omani delegation. The American envoy confirmed his country’s commitment to what he called a “Yemeni-Yemeni political process,” which is a clear confirmation of US rejection for direct negotiations between Sana’a and the aggression countries.
