Today, 18 fishermen returned to Hodeidah after months of kidnapping and torturing in the prisons of the Eritrean authorities.

During their reception at the fishing port in Hodeidah, the Director General of Ports and Centers at the Fisheries Authority, Aziz Atini, explained that the fishermen released from Eritrean prisons were 92 fishermen, of whom 18 fishermen arrived in Hodeidah, and the remainder of them were in Al-Khokha area.

He called on the international community and organizations working on the humanitarian side to play their humanitarian role to stop the crimes of kidnapping, torturing, and violations committed by the Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen and their violation of international norms and conventions.

For his part, the head of the fishermen in Hodeidah, Abdullah Hanash, indicated that Eritrea’s prisons are full of Yemeni fishermen who are being subjected to violations amid the silence of the concerned human rights organizations.

While the released fishermen reported that the Eritrean Navy, as usual, kidnapped them while they were practicing fishing in Yemeni territorial waters and took them to its prisons in its Fatima port, indicating that they were subjected to torture and hard labor while they were starving.
