Hundreds of settlers stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque this morning, Tuesday, under full and tight security protection from the occupation forces, to commemorate what is called the “Destruction of the Temple” anniversary.
The Islamic Endowments Department in occupied Jerusalem reported that about 2,250 settlers, including the extremist Ben Gvir, stormed the courtyards of the blessed mosque since the morning, and organized provocative tours in its courtyards, under heavy protection from the occupation police.
The storming included performing the “epic prostration” and dancing and singing inside the courtyards of the mosque in a clear challenge and provocation to the feelings of Muslims.
The settlement associations have been working for weeks to mobilize settlers to carry out large group raids on the courtyards of the mosque, to commemorate the “Destruction of the Temple” anniversary.
It pointed out that one of the settlers provided Torah explanations during the raids, while others raised the occupation flag in the mosque, in addition to performing the “epic prostration” near the Qattanin Gate.
It added that the occupation forces obstructed the entry of worshipers into the courtyards of the mosque and deployed large forces at its gates in order to facilitate the settlers’ storming operations.
The anniversary of the “Destruction of the Temple” falls on August 9 according to the Hebrew calendar, and the Jews consider this anniversary a day of mourning for the destruction of the “Temple of Solomon” by the Babylonians.
Extremist groups see this anniversary as “a day to renew the covenant with the removal of Al-Aqsa from existence, and the establishment of the alleged temple, and to achieve practical leaps towards that, and during it they seek to impose the largest number of intruders every year.”
These preparations come amid Palestinian calls to intensify the pilgrimage to Al-Aqsa Mosque, to confront the settlers’ incursions and provocations.
The occupation police always anticipate this anniversary with a campaign of deportations from Al-Aqsa, targeting dozens of Jerusalemites, worshipers and Jerusalemite figures, in an attempt to allow settlers to desecrate the mosque.
