The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that more than 600,000 children in the Gaza Strip suffer severe trauma and are deprived of education, while their schools have been transformed into overcrowded refugee centers unfit for teaching.

This came in a post on the “X” platform by UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini, today, Monday, on the occasion of the start of the school year or preparations for its start in the world, including UNRWA schools in the West Bank, while this is absent from the Gaza Strip for the second year due to the Israeli war.

Lazzarini added in a post on  “X” platform: “Boys and girls across the region are returning to UNRWA schools except for Gaza.”

“There are more than 600,000 children suffering from severe trauma and living under the rubble, and they are still deprived of education, half of whom were in UNRWA schools,” he added.

Lazzarini warned that “the longer children remain out of school, the greater the risk of a lost generation.”

He added, “More than 70% of our schools in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged, and the majority of them have become shelters crowded with hundreds of thousands of displaced families and cannot be used for education.”

He suggested that “in the absence of a ceasefire, children may fall prey to exploitation,” calling for not allowing this to happen in Gaza as it has

happened in other conflicts around the world.

He stressed that the ceasefire “is a winning card for everyone, allowing civilians (in Gaza) to regain peace, the release of Israeli hostages and the flow of essential needs, including education.”

Lazzarini revealed on Saturday that the Israeli government is buying ads on the “Google” platform to defame the agency and prevent users from donating to it.

He stressed the “need for more regulations to combat misinformation and hate speech” on these platforms, indicating that “UNRWA is the largest humanitarian organization responding to the crisis in Gaza.”

Over the months of the ongoing war, the Zionist enemy entity has deliberately distorted the image of “UNRWA”, in an attempt to justify targeting its institutions and centers, including educational ones on the pretext that they harbor Palestinian resistance fighters or store weapons in them.
