The Gaza Municipality said on Monday that large areas in the north and southwest of the city are still suffering from a severe and widespread water shortage. This is due to the Zionist enemy’s destruction of the desalination plant in the northwest of the city, in addition to the destruction of the wells and water tanks supplying those areas.

The municipality clarified in a statement that “Mekorot” water pipeline currently supplies the city center.

The municipality confirmed that it is making efforts to repair the networks to deliver water to some areas west of the city that can be supplied, but which are suffering from water shortages due to the destruction of their water sources.

It indicated that it is cooperating with citizens and neighborhood committees to operate private wells in those areas to ensure a minimum supply of water.

The municipality explained that the Zionist enemy’s destruction of the water desalination plant in the northwest of the city, which produced approximately 10,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day, in addition to the destruction of the wells and reservoirs supplying that area, has caused a real crisis in the northwest of the city.

It added that it is currently carrying out initial repairs to the lines and networks, and is conducting network tests after the repairs to ensure the integrity of the network and its ability to deliver water to areas and homes.

The municipality has obtained funding to rebuild some of the water wells supplying the northwest of the city, such as the Saftawi wells and others, and expects to begin operating them within the next few days.
