Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of potentially using regional wars to interfere with "Israel's" next general election, warning that public action would be necessary if such a scenario unfolded.

Speaking to "Israel's" public broadcaster KAN on Sunday, Barak said he was concerned that Netanyahu could exploit security developments to prevent the electoral process from moving forward as scheduled.

"I fear Netanyahu may try to sabotage the elections, and he can do it very easily," Barak said. "If he tries, we will have no choice but to remove him with sticks and stones."

"Israel's" current parliamentary term is set to end in October 2026, with elections expected to take place in September or October.

Barak suggested that military actions beyond "Israel's" borders could be used to generate conditions that would delay the vote.

"Netanyahu could sabotage the elections by launching operations in Lebanon that would provoke retaliation from Hezbollah and Iran," he said.

The remarks coincided with fresh Israeli aggression against Beirut's Southern Suburb, an escalation that unfolded as Washington and Tehran were reportedly preparing to finalize a memorandum of understanding following the war against Iran.

The expected signing was thrown into uncertainty after the Israeli aggression. The attack drew criticism from several quarters and raised concerns that renewed escalation on the Lebanese front could complicate ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
