851 Children killed ,wounded in raids and shelling of mercenaries in Taiz governorate
The Human Rights Office in Taiz governorate confirmed that the number of children who were killed and injured since the beginning of the aggression on Yemen in March 2015 reached 851 children due to the aggression raids and the bombing of mercenaries.
In a statement on the occasion of the World Children’s Day, the office stated that the aggression’s air strikes and the bombing of mercenaries on residential neighborhoods in the governorate resulted in the death of 427 children and the injury of 424 others.
It wondered the celebration while the rights of the children of Yemen were wasted in light of the silence of the international community and its disregard for what the aggression forces of practiced against their right in Yemen.
The statement affirmed that the aggression and its mercenaries deliberately killed children in Taiz and other governorates in a systematic manner among the most serious crimes against humanity in accordance with international humanitarian law, as well as the six crimes related to children’s rights stipulated in UN Security Council resolutions.
The statement indicated that the aggression coalition and its mercenaries deliberately bombed schools, which terrified children and exposed them to danger during their studies.The latest of which was the bombing of May 22 School in Salh District, which resulted in the death of a child and the injury of others.
It indicated that the raids and shelling also caused the destruction of 152 schools, pointing out that the schools in the areas under the control of mercenaries are used as military headquarters.
The statement touched on the exposure of children to grave violations by individuals affiliated with the so-called military and security brigades and mercenaries of the aggression coalition, as well as the recruitment of children they have and throwing them into the war of aggression on Yemen.
It stated that the closure of Taiz International Airport and the control of the port of Al-Mokha doubled the suffering of children, especially patients who were unable to travel for treatment abroad. The medicines and aid related to children were not allowed in and easy access, which caused an increase in the number of malnourished children in the governorate.
The statement pointed out that many children were deprived of the educational process, especially in the areas that the aggression coalition forces control over schools and educational facilities ,making them military headquarters.
The Human Rights Office in Taiz holds the United Nations and the international and humanitarian community fully responsible for violations of children’s rights and intentional killings.It called on relevant international and local organizations to assume humanitarian responsibility and monitor and document such crimes that are considered war crimes against humanity.
