The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, has condemned the Zionist attacks on Syria, characterizing them as an extension of the aggressive policies pursued by the Israeli entity in the region, and holding the United States and countries supporting Israel responsible for the repercussions of these ongoing assaults.
During a press conference, Baghaei stated that "Israel has not stopped its aggression against the countries of the region for decades," noting that the attacks on Syria come following "the occupation of Palestinian territories, aggressions against Lebanon, and the continuation of military operations against the Palestinian people."
He emphasized that "the Israeli attacks constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, in addition to representing a direct threat to regional peace and security." He called upon the United Nations and the Security Council to " shoulder their responsibilities and take effective measures to halt these aggressions."
He added that "the continued inaction of the Security Council in dealing with the Israeli attacks on Iran, Lebanon, and Syria, along with the ongoing war in Palestine, contributes to perpetuating the state of instability in the region." He maintained that the countries continuing to support Israel, foremost among them the United States, bear responsibility for the outcomes of this situation.
Regarding the recent US attacks on targets inside Iranian territory, Baghaei stated that any breach by the United States of its obligations stipulated in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) would have a "negative impact" on the course of the ongoing negotiations.
He stressed that Iran "will not leave any aggressive act without a response," confirming that "any attack targeting its territory will be met with a 'decisive and immediate response' by the Iranian armed forces."
He explained that "these attacks represent a violation of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding," warning that their repetition will present serious challenges to the continuity of the negotiating process.
Baghaei pointed out that "the commencement of negotiations regarding the final agreement is conditional upon the implementation and continued implementation of clauses (1), (4), (5), (10), and (11) of the memorandum of understanding." He noted that relative progress has been achieved in some files, including ending the naval blockade and issuing exemptions related to the sale of Iranian oil and petrochemical products, in addition to Iran's full commitment to its rights in the Strait of Hormuz.
He concluded by stressing that "some files still face challenges," emphasizing the necessity for the opposing party to adhere to all of its commitments stipulated in the memorandum of understanding to ensure the continuation of the negotiating process.
