Yemen Warns of Ongoing Attack on Marine Resources by Aggressor Countries

The Ministry of Fisheries in Yemen’s National Salvation Government has renewed its warning against the ongoing attack on national resources in Yemeni waters and islands by the US-Saudi-Emirati aggressors, urging local and international action to protect the marine environment from the occupation forces’ practices. This comes in the wake of recent warnings from the revolutionary leader, who emphasized that the armed forces would work to protect all national resources on land and sea.

In a new statement this week, the ministry said that the aggressive forces continue to engage in “hostile activities” in the Socotra Archipelago and Yemeni territorial waters. The ministry explained that the practices of the Emirati occupation forces are causing significant damage to fish and coral reefs, in addition to plundering hundreds of tons of coral stones and exporting them to Gulf countries.

The ministry had previously warned of efforts by the aggressor countries to turn Yemeni land and waters into a toxic waste dump, noting that massive numbers of fish had died due to radioactive waste in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. The ministry also previously warned of the continued plundering of national fish wealth by foreign companies and giant fishing vessels, a fact confirmed by a Reuters investigation that revealed extensive smuggling of large quantities of fish to aggressor countries.

The latest statement from the Ministry of Fisheries calls on “all relevant parties in the local and international community to respect regional agreements and treaties for the preservation of the marine environment.” The Minister of Fisheries had previously called on the Ministry of Defense and the political leadership to take a firm stance against the ongoing violations by the aggressor countries in Yemeni territorial waters, including the dumping of toxic waste.

The revolutionary leader, Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, announced in his latest speech on the occasion of the annual anniversary of the Sarkha, that the operations to protect national wealth would expand to include all resources on land and sea, making the activities of the aggressor forces in Yemeni territorial waters legitimate targets for the armed forces.

National wealth in various occupied parts of the country is subjected to ongoing plunder and continuous violations by the aggressor forces, with criminal complicity by the puppet government, and amid international and United Nations silence that encourages the aggressor countries to continue.
