Lebanese Army: “Israel” continues to evade its obligations and violate our sovereignty

The Lebanese army condemned “Israel’s” persistence in evading its obligations under the ceasefire agreement and continuing to violate its country’s sovereignty.

This came in a statement issued by the Lebanese army yesterday, Wednesday, in its first comment on “Israel’s” continued occupation of 5 border points in southern Lebanon, despite the expiry of the extension period for the withdrawal on February 18.

The army said in its statement that “its military units are completing their deployment in all southern border towns in coordination with the five-member committee supervising the ceasefire agreement and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) after the Israeli enemy withdrew from them.”

He added that the Israeli enemy army “is still stationed at several border points (inside Lebanese territory), and persists in evading its obligations and violating Lebanese sovereignty through continuous attacks on the security of Lebanon and its citizens.”

He pointed out that “the enemy has not committed to a complete withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories, in accordance with international charters and legitimacy and UN resolutions, most notably Resolution 1701.”

Resolution 1701 stipulates the cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and “Israel,” and the establishment of a weapons-free zone between the Blue Line (which marks the lines of “Israel’s” withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000) and the Litani River in southern Lebanon, with the exception of the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from this ban.

“Israel” was supposed to complete its full withdrawal from southern Lebanon by dawn on January 26, according to the ceasefire agreement, but it requested an extension of the deadline until February 18.

Despite the expiry of the deadline extension, Israel continued to procrastinate by maintaining its presence at 5 main points inside Lebanese territory along the Blue Line, without yet announcing an official date for its withdrawal from them.
