US Continues Aggressive Maneuvers in Yemen, Hindering Peace Efforts
The United States’ aggressive maneuvers in Yemen continue to block the path to real peace and exploit the Yemeni file for its own regional ambitions. Despite mounting evidence of Saudi Arabia’s submission to American desires, the US State Department announced that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan recently visited Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss several files, including the Yemen file. Sullivan claimed that “great progress has been made with regard to building on the benefits of the truce,” but Sana’a announced the suspension of talks due to the countries of aggression’s obstinacy regarding the entitlement to pay salaries from oil and gas revenues.
Observers perceive Sullivan’s visit as a negative indicator of the ongoing American momentum towards obstructing the path to real peace associated with the Yemeni people’s demands. Sullivan’s claims suggest that the United States insists on continuing to mislead public opinion about the reality of its position on peace and the nature of real solutions. The United States seeks to present the state of neither war nor peace as an achievement that must be maintained; it also seeks to turn the entitlements of the Yemeni people into bargaining chips to prolong the duration of this state.
According to The New York Times, Sullivan brought deals to Saudi Arabia to push the Saudi regime towards concluding an overt normalization agreement with the Zionist enemy. The United States offers Riyadh the opening to purchase advanced weapons, including defense systems, in exchange for concluding the normalization agreement. US President Joe Biden confirmed that there are indications of Saudi reciprocation with the American offer, stating that “there is a rapprochement that may be ongoing.”
These details renew confirmation of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to American orientations regarding the Yemeni file. President Al-Mashat recently confirmed that the Saudi regime insisted during negotiations on continuing to loot the revenues of the national wealth and deposit them in the Saudi National Bank and turning salaries into a Saudi gift for Yemeni employees. This position clearly translates Saudi Arabia’s insistence on remaining within the margin of evasive maneuvers allowed by the United States.
American officials’ visits to the kingdom, led by White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, have consistently had a negative impact on peace efforts. With each visit, Saudi Arabia has become increasingly obstinate towards the demands of the Yemeni people, and this in turn has been accompanied by an escalation of American actions.
In tandem with Sullivan’s visit to Saudi Arabia, the US ambassador to the mercenaries’ government, Stephen Fagin, continued his moves aimed at hindering peace efforts and confronting the demands of the Yemeni people. Fagin announced the launch of “The Yemen Declaration for Justice and Reconciliation,” with the participation of a number of organizations. This declaration includes several demands, including guiding Yemeni parties in their negotiations to reach a settlement and rejecting any settlement that ignores those guidelines.
The United States and the international sponsors of the aggression are seeking to use the title of “civil society” as a front to impose their terms and dictates on the negotiating table and to present those terms as “human rights” demands. The United States is trying to do this behind the facade of the “international community” and the United Nations, where the statements of the Security Council and briefings of UN representatives adopt and legitimize the hostile American and British positions to blackmail Sana’a and attempt to pressure it.
The various details of the American moves in the region and in Yemen indicate a growing desire to cut off the road to any peace efforts, whether present or future. The nature of the American moves confirms that Washington seeks to subjugate all papers of the Yemeni file to its own goals behind multiple facades to remove any fair demands or legitimate entitlements and replace them with deals and dictates that serve American interests at the expense of the interests of the Yemeni people.
